2nd post for today

Just talked to Mom a bit ago.....Dad was moved to rehab today! He's still in Tyler, but he's one step closer to home now. They told Mom, he would hate them tomorrow, but love them the next day. He has to be up and ready at 7am. He's in a semi private room, with another guy. I actually think he will like having someone to keep him company. Just glad he's progressing!

Hello Lucia!

I can not believe that we didn't think of it before Carla, now Lucia can spend hours converting English to Potgugese, so she can keep up with us. To those who do not know, Lucia was the first of three foreign exchange students that lived with us, and by far our favorite! She was with us from December of 1981 to May/June 1982. Hard to believe it's been almost 30 years...

Lucia, a few memories from your time here.....the first night you walked into the kitchen and asked where the "shits" were....i thought Carla and i would burst, since we were NOT allowed to curse....you meant "sheets" but you sure created a stir. We thought for sure your very first night would involve a whipping!

I also remember that December day we walked out of the airport and you had just spent almost a whole day on a plane, leaving behind summer weather. It was FREEZING cold in Texas. I think you just wanted to go back home.

You trying to understand our "Texas draw". We all found ourselves talking even slower, so you could understand. Sometimes you were not even around and Carla and i were still making sure our words were clear.

I remember you putting your hand over your mouth and saying "oh my god!" at least 100 times the first month. Everything was an adventure with you. Such fun to watch you learn our way of life.

I remember you getting home sick and wanting to leave Mom and Dad sat down with you, and you soon realized that we were a family that wanted you in our home and we did everything that we could, to make you feel welcome.

I remember Dad harassing you to no end about different things....you both loved it.

I remember Mom worrying that you had warm enough clothes and making sure you had socks to wear all the time, to keep your feet warm! I think you wore them everyday, the whole time you were here!

I remember taking you to a party and the next day you said "NEVER again Pam". We shall leave that one alone, and not elaborate.

I remember when we took you to the airport, to send you home, and we ALL cried. You promised to return someday....i hope that day is soon.

Mom gave Carla and i a great gift two Christmas' ago.....she surprised us with a call to you. Carla and i were both in tears when we realized what she was doing...what a great gift for all of us.

And now, thru the world of the internet, you can keep up with our antics, via our blogs. I cant think of a better reason to keep posting.

One more memory...i still remember you teaching me to say "calabolka voce punta". I am positive that i didnt spell it right, but that is how i remember to say it.....

Much love to our faraway sister...someday we shall see you again!

Love,
Your Texas Sister, Pam

P.S. I predict that it will take you DAYS to translate all this!

We all talked to Dad tonight

Colby, Chelsey, Tyler and i all talked to Dad tonight. He sounded great! He's leaving the hospital tomorrow, for Rehab someplace in Tyler. He sounded like he was ready....his request is to drive our Kubota RTV when he finally gets out. I'll have it gassed up and ready. I think he'd be very content to just ride around outside, with no particular place to go. Feels like he's been in the hospital for months....and i know it has only been a few weeks.

Just walked a mile and three quarters up at the track. Tired of being fat...time to get after it again, and drop some pounds. Night number one was good. Shooting for 3-4 days a week at the track.

Night all,
Pam

He's ten!

Dylan's 10 and now he has a cell phone! And Colton got one too, although, he thought for a bit that he didnt. Wow...he threw a bit of a fit. Happy Birthday to Dylan. Burgers, hot dogs and cake at their house this afternoon. Then we had to program all our numbers into their phones. The race is on to see who can get the most numbers! I bet they went door to door before bedtime! Nana Pam

You might be a red neck if....

You might be a red neck if you have been to Bass Pro, Great Wolf Lodge and Cabella's all in the same day.....i could not even begin to guess just how many kids were at Great Wolf...what a ZOO! As was Cabella's. There was a sign that said "Cabella's Shuttle Ahead". We managed to find a parking place as did Paul and Carla. Danny liked it better than Bass Pro....not me, i prefer BP. Found something for Hayden, that will surely make Megan squirm. Need your address girl...

Morgan, Paul and. Carla are already in bed, long day for them. Danny and i are watching a red hot Dirk and the Mavs....how do i get so drawn in? Well...its the playoffs..

Continuing with Dylan's birthday tomorrow.

Communication

The fact that we "text" these days, instead of talking on the phone is just a way of life....but when my sister uses Facebook and her blog to communicate that Dad needs pj's and underwear at the hospital, i think we have crossed a line! LOL. Mom, hope you saw those notes. I think Dad is tired of being in a gown for almost a month!

Todays line up....eyebrow wax, before i have to comb them back into place. Great Wolf Lodge for the g-sons birthday party (cant believe Dylan is TEN) and home in time for Carla, Paul and Morgan to arrive. Sheets in the washer, dishes to clean, laundry room to straighten up.....that list is a little like a song, but i prefer the song "ass in the water, toes in the sand..."

Last night we had Colby, Kevin, Jay, Tyler, Chelsey and Dallas all at home.....such a BIG Friday night for all. It's kinda fun to know they are all good with just hanging out here, hard to keep up with all of them otherwise. Chelsey was very sad....grade time again, possibly a "C" coming. Earth shattering for her. BUT, when Dallas showed up, her smile returned a bit. It will be interesting, two weeks from today, to see how that whole thing goes when Conner is her Prom date....i think there is a bit of jealousy, but that never hurts anyone and "you snooze you lose" when it comes to prom! I have laid down the law....she goes with Conner, because he asked her a few weeks ago, not changing, not happening, as she would say RUDE to even think about a change this late in the game.

Just talked to Mom a bit ago, she said Dad told her that he'd be going home Monday or Tuesday. Not sure if that is wishful thinking or what. Will update once i talk to them again.

Have a great Saturday and watch Carla's Blog for Warrior Dash photos. I'd bet it is a muddy mess!

XOXO,
PK

P.S. Megan, i cant believe he is TWO. Post lots of pictures....

A second post tonight....

So....i just have to share part of my presentation today. The audience was 8 or so new people that have been here since Monday, all from out of state. It's a training class....so i am part of the training. I present at 2pm and have one hour. Think about it, that's at least an hour after lunch and i am between them and their next break. Sooo.... I decide to make my presentation a mix of fun and work. I call it the Numbers/Triva Game. The mortgage industry has many "numbers" as you can imagine. Many of our standard forms are known by a number, so i throw this and a few accronyms in to keep them guessing. I also mix in a few other things such as.

If you plug your nose (use your fingers Paul) and close your mouth, it is impossible to hum

What's the number 332? The number of dimples in a golf ball

118? The number of ridges in a dime.

119? The number of ridges in a quarter

7? The maximum number of times you can fold a regular size sheet of paper in half

Your forearm is exaxtly the same length as your foot. One guy was 6' 8" and he said NO WAY....he pops off his shoe and sure enough...same length.

80%? The percentage of water contained in your brain.

4? The number of knees that an elephant has.....they are the only animal with this number and also the only animal that can't jump!

467? The number of questions an average 4 year old asks in a day.

Hopefully you can have a little fun with my Trivia Game. The group of trainees did! And mixed in with mortgage stuff, they learned a lot too. And it was FUN!
